Broken

The broken clock is a comfort, it helps me sleep tonight
Maybe it can stop tomorrow from stealing all my time
I am here still waiting though i still have my doubts
I am damaged at best, like you’ve already figured out

I’m falling apart, I’m barely breathing
With a broken heart that’s still beating
In the pain there is healing
In your name I find meaning
So I’m holdin’ on, I’m holdin’ on, I’m holdin’ on
I’m barely holdin’ on to you

The broken locks were a warning you got inside my head
I tried my best to be guarded, I’m an open book instead
I still see your reflection inside of my eyes
That are looking for a purpose, they’re still looking for life

I’m falling apart, I’m barely breathing
with a broken heart that’s still beating
In the pain there is healing
In your name I find meaning
So I’m holdin’ on, I’m holdin’ on, I’m holdin’ on
I’m barely holdin’ on to you

I’m hangin’ on another day
Just to see what you will throw my way
And I’m hanging on to the words you say
You said that I will be ok

The broken lights on the freeway left me here alone
I may have lost my way now, haven’t forgotten my way home

It is when we are barely breathing that we realize that the only one who can restore and replenish, is the one who gave us breath, the one who gives us life. We might get lost and lose our grip, but He will never let us go. Sometimes He allows us to reach rock bottom where the only direction to look is up. Reach for him. He won’t let you down!

When You Look at the World

U2 – When I Look at the World

When you look at the world
What is it that you see
People find all kinds of things
That bring them to their knees
I see an expression
So clear and so true
That changes the atmosphere
When you walk to the room
So I try to be like you
Try to feel it like you do
But without you it’s no use
I can’t see what you see
When I look at the world
When the night is someone else’s
And you’re trying to get some sleep
When your thoughts are too expensive
To ever want to keep
When there’s all kinds of chaos
And everyone is walking lame
You don’t even blink now do you
Don’t even look away

So I try to be like you
Try to feel it like you do
But without you it’s no use
I can’t see what you see
When I look at the world

I can’t wait any longer
I can’t wait ’til I’m stronger
Can’t wait any longer
To see what you see
When I look at the world

I’m in the waiting room
I can’t see for the smoke
I think of you and your holy book
When the rest of us choke

Tell me, tell me
What do you see
Tell me, tell me
What’s wrong with me

Bono’s words will always stir something within me. How often do we get consumed by the lens with which we see the world, we don’t give another’s viewpoint a moment’s notice?

The stresses we undergo, the uncertainties we face, and the stories that define who we’ve become, all help to create our framework of relating to society.

“Without you it’s no use…tell me, what do you see?” We’re made for relationship, to bounce ideas off each other, to assist our neighbors in their pursuit of generating their own world view.

When you look at the world, what is it that you see?

Don’t Worry About a Thing

Bob Marley – Three Little Birds (lyrics)

Don’t worry about a thing,
‘Cause every little thing gonna be all right.
Singin’: ‘Don’t worry about a thing,
‘Cause every little thing gonna be all right!
‘Rise up this mornin’,
Smiled with the risin’ sun,
Three little birds
Pitch by my doorstep
Singin’ sweet songs
Of melodies pure and true,
Sayin’, (‘This is my message to you-ou-ou:’)

Singin’: ‘Don’t worry ’bout a thing,
‘Cause every little thing gonna be all right.’
Singin’: ‘Don’t worry (don’t worry) ’bout a thing,
‘Cause every little thing gonna be all right!’

Sometimes we take life too seriously, don’t you think? Jesus says, “do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?”

And Bob reminds us that everything is going to be alright. When I try to think of something I was worried about a few months ago, it’s hard to even remember it. Clearly that thing I was worried about worked itself out! Worrying didn’t fix the problem.

God is much bigger and more capable than many of us make him out to be. His promises are real. He loves us more than we can even imagine. Rather than worry, try trusting in the One who gives true life, and rest peacefully in His loving arms.

Coldplay – Lost

Just because I’m losing
Doesn’t mean I’m Lost
Doesn’t mean I’ll stop
Doesn’t mean I would cross

Just because I’m hurting
Doesn’t mean I’m hurt
Doesn’t mean I don’t get what I deserved
No better and no worse

I just got lost
Every river that I tried to cross
Every door I ever tried was locked
Oh and I’m just waiting ‘til the shine wears off

You might be a big fish
In a little pond
Doesn’t mean you’ve won
‘Cause along may come
A bigger one

And you’ll be lost
Every river that you tried to cross
Every gun you ever held went off
Oh and I’m just waiting until the firing stopped
Oh and I’m just waiting ‘til the shine wears off

Oh and I, just waiting ‘til the shine wears off
Oh and I, just waiting ‘til the shine wears off

I couldn’t have said it better myself! Since we’re all wanderers in this universe, let’s wander together, guide each other when necessary, but encourage each other always. It’s not like any of us have arrived yet! The bumps and bruises, the getting lost along the way are just par for the course.

Grace Finds Beauty in Everything

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7TvHrzQJ0NE

Grace
She takes the blame
She covers the shame
Removes the stain
It could be her name
Grace
It’s a name for a girl
It’s also a thought that
Changed the world

And when she walks on the street
You can hear the strings
Grace finds goodness
In everything
Grace
She’s got the walk
Not on a ramp or on chalk
She’s got the time to talk

She travels outside
Of karma, karma
She travels outside
Of karma

When she goes to work
You can hear the strings
Grace finds beauty
In everything

Grace
She carries a world on her hips
No champagne flute for her lips
No twirls or skips
Between her fingertips

She carries a pearl
In perfect condition
What once was hurt
What once was friction
What left a mark
No longer stings

Because grace makes beauty
Out of ugly things

Grace finds beauty
In everything

Grace finds goodness
In everything

What does this song mean to you? Indeed, this song is all about grace, and most assuredly, God’s grace.

“Grace is a thought that changed the world.”  Romans 5:7-8: “Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous man, though for a good man someone might possibly dare to die. But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”

“Grace makes beauty out of ugly things.” Though we’ve been created by God to ultimately worship Him, we’ve turned to our own ways and rebelled against Him. None of us will reach God by doing good, for all of us have fallen short of his glory. Sin separates us from God, but we may rejoice, for God sent his Son to save us and restore the ugly things of this world. Many of us feel ugly for what we’ve done, or helpless in our situation. Hebrews 10b: “..we have been made holy through the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.”

“She takes the blame, she covers the shame, removes the stain.” Through Jesus, our sins are washed white as snow.

Ephesians 2:7: “..he might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus”

“Grace finds goodness in everything.” All of us have felt that no good can come from a situation. This can be no further from the truth! John 10:10: “I have come that they might have life, and life more abundant!”

And why? Because God is gracious!
